List of Abilene's 5 most dangerous intersections released
Police have tallied up the number of wrecks that occurred in 2012 and have determined Abilene's most dangerous intersections.
Three intersections with the most collisions are located near the Mall of Abilene.
“Sometimes people are just in a hurry, thinking about three or four things ahead of what they're doing and next thing you know, they're in a collision,” Sgt. Richard Waggoner said.
Among the most dangerous intersections are:
*- Southwest Drive and Danville Drive, 28 collisions
*- Buffalo Gap Road and Clack Street, 28 collisions
*- Buffalo Gap Road and Robertson Drive, directly across from the mall, 20 collisions
*- Judge Ely Boulevard and Ambler Avenue, 20 collisions.
*- South 11th Street and Treadaway Boulevard, 18 collisions.
Waggoner said distracted drivers and drivers who failed to yield to the right of way were a major factor in collisions last year.
“Watch for other drivers, be a good defensive driver. Always be ready to stop. The other person may be distracted for a second and not see you even though you're in the right of way. If you can have a chance to avoid that collision, do so,” Waggoner said.
