Local Audobon Society holds Christmas bird count
The local Audobon Society in Abilene participated in the "Christmas Bird Count" Saturday.
They met to look and listen for birds around Taylor County and count them. The event is designed to track trends in the area.
They determine whether bird groups are increasing or decreasing.
Especially interesting findings are sent to the National Audobon Society so they can conduct more in depth studies of local bird patterns.
"Today was the first Bald Eagle I've seen in Taylor County. It's dynamic, they move around, you can look at them in your backyard, around the state or you can travel to the ends of the earth, and they're everywhere," said Jay Packer, a member of the local chapter of the Audobon Society.
The local chapter of the Audobon Society meets every other month, and anyone is welcome to join.
