A 21-year-old San Angelo man reportedly accidentally drowned over the weekend in Lake Nasworthy.
At about 11:15 p.m. Friday, San Angelo police officers located Fernando Tovar out of the water, unconscious and not breathing in the 2100 block of Mary E. Lee Road (Mary E. Lee Beach), according to a news release. CPR had already been initiated by a bystander at the beach, police said.
San Angelo Fire Department personnel arrived and transported Tovar to San Angelo Community Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead by a physician, the news release said. Justice of the Peace Kay Longest ruled the death was an accidental drowning.
According to police, Tovar was swimming with friends when the group swam out to a buoy. On the swim back, Tovar wasn?t able to keep up. When the other swimmers made it back to shore and realized Tovar wasn?t with them, a friend swam back out, located Tovar under water and pulled him to shore.
