Martinez Elementary is hosting a special grand opening and dedication today. The public is invited to attend the ceremony in the school's cafeteria.

The ceremony will feature Abilene Independent School District officials and students, as well as family members of the late Myra Payne Martinez, the namesake of the school.

The grand opening celebration will be at 1 p.m. There will be an official ribbon cutting and guided tours of the school.

Martinez Elementary serves the combined student populations of Fannin and College Heights elementaries.

Martinez is located on the 1200 block of Merchant Street.
