The field of participants for the 2012 NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships ? to be held this coming Thursday through Saturday (May 24-26) ? was announced today. The War Hawk men will have a total of 15 entries, while the women will have six.
The McMurry men were ranked #1 in the latest USTFCCCA computer rankings for a fifth-consecutive week. The McM women were slotted 13th.
In the men's final seedings, McMurry will have two entrants in the 100. Junior Kenneth Turner is the No. 1 seed in with a time of 10.52, while junior Trevon Odom is No. 7 with a time of 10.59. In the 200 meters, the duo is No. 2 and 4, respectively, with Turner at 21.16 seconds and Odom at 21.21 seconds.
In the 400 meter dash, senior 10-time All-American Kevin Cunningham looks to close out his McM career as the No. 1 seed in a clocking of 47.33 seconds. Cunningham is also the top seed in the 400 hurdles in a time of 51.02.
In the 110 meter hurdles, freshman Junior Saint Preux looks to extend his amazing inaugural collegiate campaign. Saint Preux enters the meet with the top time of 14.00 seconds flat (also having run a 13.90, but was disallowed due to excessive wind).
McMurry has the No. 2 rated 4x100 relay quartet, with an entry time of 41.03 seconds. The group is comprised of Josh Zu-Bolton, John Keith, Gavan Bass and Kenneth Turner.
The War Hawks' 4x400 relay team is seeded sixth with a time of 3:13.03 minutes. Freshman Willi Poindexter leads off the for McM, followed by senior Marcus Thompson, Cunningham and Odom.
In the field events, freshman Jujaun Austin is No. 11 in the high jump with a qualifying height of 6' 9 ½?. In the long jump Bass is the No. 4 ranked jumper at 24' 7 ¾?.
McMurry will send three participants ? all freshmen - to the triple jump competition. Everette Miller heads the cast with the only McMurry triple jump mark better than 50-feet, going 50-' 3 ¼? last week at Trinity. Dillon Wilkins and Chris Ogle are Nos. 12 and 13, respectively. Wilkins, who owns McM's indoor triple jump record, has a qualifying leap of 48' 4 ½? and Ogle at 48' 3 ¼?.
In the shot put, sophomore Paul Davis has the nation's top mark of 62' 8 ½?, a distance nearly three feet better than the next closest competitor. Davis will also compete in the discus with a throw of 170' 1?, the 14th-best seed.
In the women's competition, junior Kendra Coleman is seeded 13th in the 100 meters, notching a time of 12.04 seconds.
The War Hawks' 4x10 relay team ? consisting of sophomore Carla Burton, Kendra Coleman, freshman Tiana Alexander and sophomore Shanita Coleman ? is ranked third in a time of 46.69 seconds.
Shanita Coleman and Alexander are both in the long jump. Coleman is No. 5 (19' 7 ½?) and Alexander No. 7 (19' 2?). Coleman is also in the triple jump, coming in at 38' 9 ½?, good for the 18th seed.
Freshman shot putter Destiney Kesee rounds out McM head coach Barbara Crousen's competitors. Kesee has the 12th-best mark in the shot at a distance of 44' 10 ¼?.
