Mistake leads to wrong man's arrest for Abilene murder
Authorities made a mistake when they arrested a man in Whitfield, Ga., in February for his part in the Abilene shooting death of Albert Cadena more than four years ago.
Authorities thought the man to be 25-year-old Martin Talavera Jr.
Instead, the man now being held in a Columbus, Ga., detention facility has been identified as Victor Perez, a man who previously used “Martin Televara” as an alias.
The Taylor County Sheriff’s Department issued a release Thursday noting the mistake. A news release said the sheriff’s office learned of the goof Wednesday after receiving information from Department of Homeland Security Custom and Border Protection agents.
According to the release, Perez is in custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
As a result, Talavera's arrest warrant has been reentered into National Crime Information Center and Texas Crime Information Center databases. Those with information regarding Martin Talavera Jr., are asked to contact TCSO at (325) 674-1300, or via e-mail email@example.com
Cadena was found dead in the 3600 block of Clinton Street.
Two other subjects – William Gagnon and Joe Rangel – have already been prosecuted for the crime.
