ABILENE, Texas -

Many city of Abilene offices and service centers will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 22 and Friday, Nov. 23 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

As always, emergency and life saving services such as fire and police protection will be up and running.

The Abilene Animal Shelter will be closed Nov. 22 and Nov. 23 for the holiday. Citizens with an animal related emergency should contact the Abilene Police Department at 325-673-8331 and an Animal Services Officer will be dispatched to handle the call. The animal shelter will open again on Saturday, Nov. 24 and resume its regular Saturday business hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Solid Waste Services division offices will not be open Nov. 22 and 23. There will be no residential pickup on Thursday or Friday. There is no commercial container collection on Thursday, Nov. 22. There will be limited commercial container collection on Friday, Nov. 23. There will be no bulk and brush collection on Nov. 22 and 23. The Environmental Recycling Center (ERC) will also be closed Thursday and Friday. The ERC will resume regular business hours on Saturday, Nov. 24. Solid Waste Services will resume all normal operations Monday, Nov. 26.

The Municipal Court will also be closed on Nov. 22 and 23. All citations due Nov. 22 and 23 will be due on Monday, Nov. 26 with no penalty.

Other City closings for Nov. 22 and 23 include: City Hall, Health Division, all Abilene Public Library locations, Abilene Civic Center, the Development Corporation of Abilene, the Airport Administration Office and City Recreation and Senior Citizen centers.

CityLink Transit will not run on Thanksgiving Day. On Friday, Nov. 23 and Saturday, Nov. 24, CityLink will operate on the Saturday schedule. Normal operations will resume on Monday, Nov. 26. .

The Abilene Zoo is closed on Thanksgiving. The zoo will resume regular hours on Friday, Nov. 23.

The Water Services Center, 701 E. Hwy. 80, won’t be open on Thanksgiving. The center will reopen on Friday, Nov. 23 as well as on Saturday, Nov. 24 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For water emergencies, sewer problems and reports of water conservation ordinance violations, citizens may call the Water Services Center’s emergency hotline, 676-6000, seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
