Congressman Randy Neugebauer came to Abilene Friday to meet with children from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Neugebauer was at the Century Plaza Building in south Abilene at 10 a.m. Friday to support the "Promise to Remember Me" campaign.
He said that as a policy maker, it's important to understand the complications and treatments for diabetes. He heard from children and others who explained the complications of life with diabetes.
"We want to learn more about how kids cope with that on a daily basis," Neugebauer said.
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is the largest charitable supporter and leading global organization focused on Type 1 diabetes. The research aims to develop a cure for the disease and also help improve the lives of people already living with it.
"Obviously, this is a disease that's crippling and sometimes even fatal," Neugebauer said. "It's a health issue for our country."
