Taylor County swore in a new justice of the peace Thursday morning.

Former Police Officer Mike McAuliffe won the Republican primary with about 60 percent of the vote for justice of the peace precinct 1, place 1. He served 20 years in the Abilene Police Department.

McAuliffe is filling Justice of the Peace Bryan Smith's spot. Smith announced his retirement last week and Wednesday was his last day in office.
