The Attorney General's office will not investigate an alleged altercation between Stephens County Sheriff Billy Wade and a female police officer, according to Stephens Co. District Attorney Dea Peavy.
Billy Wade, an ex-Breckenridge police officer, allegedly had an altercation with a female police officer in November 2012.
Wade resigned from the police department soon after the allegations surfaced. Police Chief Larry Mahan said Wade resigned to prepare for taking office as sheriff.
Because of the allegations, Stephens County commissioners delayed Wade's swearing in ceremony until December 31.
Peavy said the Attorney General's office recently declined her request for an investigation due to the lack of sufficient evidence for a criminal investigation.
However, Peavy said the City of Breckenridge will conduct an internal investigation.
