An overnight fire damaged the Las Brisas Apartments in Abilene.
The Abilene Fire Department responded to the call at around 10:45 p.m. Thursday. Four engines and two trucks responded to the fire in a second story apartment on the west side of the complex, located on South Clack St.
According to AFD, six apartments were evacuated while firefighters searched for the cause of the fire. Firefighters broke the door to the apartment down in an effort to put out the flames.
The fire was contained to one bedroom in the apartment, but there was smoke damage to the rest. Firefighters used a compressed-air foam system, known as "CAFS" to prevent water damage to other units of the building. The sole occupant of the apartment was not at home at the time of the fire.
There was heavy smoke damage to the surrounding apartments. It took almost an hour to remove all the smoke from the building. Evacuated residents from the surrounding apartments were able to go back inside after an hour.
No injuries were reported. Damage is estimated to be less than $10,000.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
