The Abilene Police Department is investigating alleged hazing involving Wylie High School students.
At the same time, some members of Wylie’s Class 3A No. 7-ranked football team are facing disciplinary action, according to team members.
"The Police Department is conducting an investigation regarding alleged hazing involving Wylie High School students. Because this is an active investigation, no additional information can be shared," Chief Stan Standridge told KTXS Friday morning.
Standridge said the department was alerted to the alleged hazing through a Crime Stoppers tip over the weekend – rather than by Wylie ISD.
Contacted earlier today, Wylie ISD Superintendent Joey Light said he could not confirm or deny anything regarding the alleged hazing. Light said it is against school policy for administrators to comment on cases involving student discipline.
"We can't comment on any student discipline issues -- and I'm not going to make any comments beyond that," Light told KTXS.
He said school leaders did not become aware of the problem until police contacted them and that is the reason they did not call police about it.
Light said the school district is not trying to cover the situation up and will cooperate with police during the investigation.
