San Angelo’s newly renovated swimming pool will have its grand opening Saturday.
The city of San Angelo Recreation Division will host the grand opening of the San Angelo Municipal Pool, 18 E. Ave. A, from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday.
Entry fee will be $2 and two canned goods per person. Flavored ice and water will be provided to the first 300 guests.
The municipal pool has undergone a $3.2 million renovation funded by the voter-approved half-cent sales tax. Improvements include renovation of the interior of the historic structure – built by WPA labor in 1938 – with new restrooms and dressing areas, a lifeguard area, concessions and a cafe-style sitting area.
According to a news release, the project also includes renovation and modification of the pool, which now has a beach entry, several spray toys, vortex pool areas, lap swimming area, two large water slides, shaded sitting areas, new and efficient pumping and filtration systems and improved accessibility.
Approximately 200,000 gallons of water is needed to fill the renovated pool, compared with the previous pool that required more than 400,000 gallons of water to fill.
This is the first complete renovation since the pool was built in 1938.
