HOUSTON — Houston area residents continue cleaning up after their homes were flooded by last week's drenching rains.
Harris County officials said Sunday they are still visiting affected neighborhoods and assessing damage to flooded homes.
The Houston Chronicle reports that officials estimate 50 to 100 homes were flooded along Cypress Creek, located in the northwest part of the Houston area. The creek rose above its banks after getting nearly 16 inches of rain over the past week.
Jerry Turner spent Saturday cleaning up his home. A work crew had to remove about 7,000 gallons of water from Turner's den.
Residents were hoping for a break from the rain. But forecasters expected scattered rain showers in the Houston area on Sunday.
