Residents on the east side of Lake Fort Phantom woke up to a grass fire on Thursday night.

The fire started around 11 p.m. Officials said no structures were lost to the flames and no injuries were reported.

People who live in the area said it was a scary scene.

"I could see it lighting up the smoke and the wind was blowing it," said Day Scott, who lives close to the fire's location. Barbara Hagler's backyard backs up to the area the fire burned. She said when the fire started she grabbed her dog and drove up the street to wait for the fire department.

"All I could see was orange and smoke. You could hear it too. It was just coming to us," said Hagler.

Hagler's neighbors said they believe fireworks started the fire. The fire department arrived quickly and put out the flames within an hour. Scott said he is worried about the potential for more fires because of people setting off fireworks for the Fourth of July.

"If people would just consider other people and consequences of their actions we might avoid a lot of trouble. Somebody could get killed and lose everything they own. It's kind of scary," said Scott.
