ROBY, Texas -

KTXS News has learned a teacher and coach with the Roby Consolidated Independent School District has been arrested for having an improper relationship with a student.

According to Chief Deputy Shane Baxter of the Fisher County Sheriff's Office, Kyle Oldham was arrested Oct. 8. He is facing a second-degree felony charge.

Baxter said Oldham and the student met over the summer at a rodeo before the school year began.

"Him being an educator he should have known better than to have anything to do with a student," said Baxter.

A girl who said she was the one involved with Oldham said she never told Oldham that she was a student when they met.

In this case, Chief Deputy Shane Baxter said the victim is a 17-year-old female.

Heath Dickson, superintendent of Roby CISD, was quick to respond with further information.

Dickson said Oldham was a late hire who started July 16 as a high school history teacher. In addition, Oldham was the boys' assistant coach for football, basketball, track and other sports that Roby High School participates in, Dickson said.

Dickson said Oldham resigned after the allegations came to light.

Dickson said the school district interviewed students after learning of the allegations to determine if any other relationships existed.

"Anything that we hear, we look into any rumors, anything like that. We take it seriously," said Dickson.

"There is no reason to believe anyone else was involved," he added.
