The competition is heating up in the Texas High School Rodeo Finals at the Taylor County Expo Center.
Making it in this rodeo, takes a whole lot more than a cowboy boots.
Hundreds of the best high school competitors around the state have converged on the Taylor County Expo Center, giving it their all, hoping to walk away, one step closer to a national title.
These young riders have been working toward this goal for years.
"It's amazing. It's like nothing you're ever experienced," said Mickenzie Roberts.
For most, the journey isn't easy.
"I drew a calf that kicked too hard and strained, " said Mitch McMillian.
The handful who perform at their peak are rewarded with scholarships and those who fall short, look forward to next year.
The winners of the state competition go to the High School National Finals in Rock Springs, Wyoming next month.
