Safety a priority for the Abilene Zoo
Keeping its patrons and its residents safe are top priorities at the Abilene Zoo.
KTXS spoke with Bill Gersonde, Abilene Zoo Director, who explains that the zoo has procedures and protocols for emergencies ranging from a visitor injury to an earthquake.
Every employee carries a two-way radio that keeps them connected to one another.
The staff also performs drills for all of the different kind of emergencies.
"We are as prepared as we can be for anything", says Gersonde.
While the zoo tries to be as responsible as they can with the visitor's safety, parents and guardians play a big part as well.
Parents are encouraged to keep children away from the guard fences and to never allow them to cross fences to exhibits
