Wednesday, key senators reached a deal on background checks for gun buyers.
A rare bipartisan agreement in the Senate was announced Wednesday morning that would expand criminal background checks for potential gun buyers, including sales at gun shows and on the Internet.
Sales among family members would still be exempt from the requirement.
Abilene gun dealers say this new agreement is a slippery slope.
"I'm against it," said Patrick Cowen of The Shootin' Shop. "Gun shows have been around for years and it's just one of our rights and if they get that right, they're going to go after more," he said.
The proposal for expanded background checks also includes a requirement for sellers to keep records of all their sales.
