A man suspected of stealing from a department store led police on the foot chase to a community college parking lot, where he struggled with officers before being shot dead.

The shooting happened just before 4 p.m. Thursday in a parking lot of the Tarrant County College Southeast Campus in southeastern Arlington. Arlington police Sgt. Christopher Cook said officers from neighboring Grand Prairie had chased the man from the nearby store to the lot, where the struggle happened.
Cook said the Grand Prairie officer who shot the suspect feared for his life and those of his fellow officers involved in the struggle. He gave no other details.
He said Arlington police are conducting the criminal investigation, while Grand Prairie police are performing the internal administrative investigation.
