For some, Christmas just isn't Christmas without tamales.
The word "tamale" means "wrapped food" and they can be traced back as early as 5,000 B.C.
Originally, they served as a nutritious and portable food for Aztec, Mayan and Incan warriors.
Today, though, tamales are a sentimental tradition that have been passed down for generations.
Carolina DeLeon of La Popular Bakery explains why they're so popular.
"I guess because they're good," she said.
There are countless ways to garnish tamales, including adding cheese dip or lemon juice.
DeLeon prefers hers with ketchup.
Although tamales are a tradition Hispanic in nature, people from all walks of life enjoy them.
Most places being taking orders for tamales a couple weeks before Christmas. Chances are, if you haven't gotten them by now, most stores and restaurants have run out.
