ABILENE, Texas -

People flocked to the Mall of Abilene for a little shopping and some big sales during tax-free weekend.

"I just bought some shoes for me and my dad," said Caleb Delril who was back-to-school shopping with his family.

"We just went to one store and got pretty good deals in there. Everything was like 50% off," said Joni Richardson who was shopping with her son.

Tax-free weekend is in full swing and a lot of shoppers had their sights on the school year that starts in just over a week. Misty Sears, who was shopping at the Mall of Abilene Saturday, said the savings are helpful for families.

"It's easier for parents to come out and get school clothes and stuff for their kids," said Sears.

Richardson said sales have been mostly school friendly.

"That's what we were actually really proud of is that we actually got what he wanted for school," Richardson said.

Tax-free weekend continues until midnight on Sunday. The state said Texas shoppers save about eight dollars for every $100 they spend. School supplies, clothing, shoes and backpacks under $100 are all exempt from state and local taxes.
