A nearly two hour standoff with police has ended peacefully for a capital murder suspect officials say took a deputy's gun and escaped a Dallas hospital.
Franklin B. Davis surrendered shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday. Dallas County sheriff's spokeswoman Carmen Castro said he was being taken back to Parkland Memorial Hospital, the same hospital from which he'd escaped about 8:30 p.m.
Dallas County sheriff's officials say tactical squad officers surrounded the 30-year-old Carrollton man about 9 p.m. after he sought refuge in a van about a mile from the hospital.
The 30-year-old Davis was awaiting trial in the death of Carrollton high school sophomore Shania Gray. Davis already was charged with sexually assaulting Gray when he allegedly took the 16-year-old from school. Her body was found Sept. 8. She had been shot and strangled.
