A teacher at a North Texas school was suspended after she deposited pencil shavings in the mouth of an eighth-grader who had fallen asleep in class.
The teacher at Boles Junior High School was disciplined following the incident last month. The district did not identify the teacher.
The actions of the teacher were "unacceptable" and the school district informed the student's mother of the incident, the district said in a statement.
But Kyev Tatum, president of the Texas Southern Christian Leadership Conference in Fort Worth, wants to meet with school officials.
He's concerned because he said the eighth-grader is black and was targeted. Tatum said the teacher should be fired.
