A K-9 helped officers discover cocaine possessed by a 33-year-old driver who looked nervous after a routine traffic stop early Friday morning.
Shawn Christopher Jefferson (DOB 9/23/78) was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, and he was issued a citation for no insurance. He was booked into the Tom Green County Jail.
At about 3:30 a.m. Friday, San Angelo Police Officer Ryan Morgan stopped a 2012 gray Dodge Charger driven by Jefferson in the 1500 block of Veck for a traffic violation.
Officer Morgan noted that Jefferson was extremely nervous and gave several conflicting statements while being interviewed.
Officer Howard Miller and his K-9 arrived at the scene. Officer Miller utilized the K-9 to conduct a sniff on the exterior of the vehicle. The K-9 gave a positive indication for the presence of illegal narcotics.
A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of approximately 4 grams of suspected crack cocaine in the center console.
Det. Bill Mabe is investigating this incident.
