Trent ISD teacher and coach wins Teacher Tribute award
Laryssa Hise, a teacher and coach with the Trent Independent School District, is this week’s Teacher Tribute winner.
Hise works with students of all ages and coaches girls’ athletics in addition to teaching speech, family and consumer sciences and child development. She said she enjoys working on a small campus because it allows her have a close relationship with her students.
On Wednesday, she took four of her high school students to an elementary school classroom to learn about child development.
“Before the class they didn't know any of these kids and now they just walk down the hall, they're all best friends,” Hise said. “It's kind of fun to be in a small school like that.”
Hise’s love for teaching and coaching led two of her students to nominate her for Teacher Tribute.
“I was excited and kind of shocked,” Hise said. “I guess I had no idea the girl that sent it in, her sister and her both sent a letter in for me, so I had no idea until they called my name out and my parents walked in. So it was exciting.”
Melanie Robinson’s nomination letter was the winner. Hise said she now works even harder to live up to the honor and to set a positive example for her students.
“After Melanie's letter, I was like I hope that I'm that person that she wrote [about],” Hise said. “She made me out to be really good but no I would hope that the way I act is…how they're trying to act there in the classroom.”
