UPDATED: Preliminary autopsy results released for body found in Nolan County last week

SWEETWATER, Texas -

The preliminary autopsy report for a body found in the median of I-20 in Sweetwater last week identifies the victim as an adult male, Sweetwater's police chief said Monday.

Authorities do not yet know the name, exact age or origin of the victim.

The body had decomposed by the time it was discovered by a highway cleanup crew.

He was transported Monday from South Plains Forensic Pathology in Lubbock to the forensic anthropology department of the University of North Texas in Denton for further study.

Sweetwater Police Chief Brian Frieda said Monday the police department is currently gathering DNA profiles from missing persons to try and identify the man.
