University of Texas System regents will consider whether presidents of all 15 schools should get bonuses if graduation rates improve.
According to the Austin American-Statesman, regents meeting Wednesday and Thursday in Austin are scheduled to review the incentive proposal.
Chancellor Francisco Cigarroa has recommended approval. An aide said Gov. Rick Perry strongly supports incentive pay.
The bonuses would apply to school presidents and some other system executives. The higher pay would be based on leaders increasing donations and meeting other higher education goals.
Critics have raised ethical questions about financial rewards for meeting philanthropic goals. Other concerns have been raised about whether academic standards would be intentionally weakened so that students pass courses.
