ABILENE, Texas -

If you live in the city of Abilene, homeowners are only allowed to water their lawn one-day-a-week.

This summer, there hasn't been a lot of reported water violators.

From June 1 through Thursday, there were 31 reported water violations investigated, but only one citation given, according to the city of Abilene.

The rule is set in place in order to conserve water so the cities water supply doesn't see a shortage.

Although, not everyone follows the rules and if you get caught not following the watering schedule, there are some hefty penalties.

Fines can be anywhere from $50-$500 depending on the violation.

How do residents get caught watering their lawns on the wrong days? Someone must call the cities water department and report misuse of watering.
