Abilene colleges welcome new freshmen
Hundreds of students moved into McMurry, Hardin-Simmons and Abilene Christian Universities this week. They said they are excited about taking the next big step in their life.
"Been doing a lot of getting to know each other and packing and unpacking," said Ashley Sommerville who moved into a dorm at McMurry University Wednesday.
"I’m just ready. I'm ready to start this college and ready to have some good experiences," ACU freshman Christie Green said.
"I’m very excited, very ready to get settled and still unpacking a bunch of stuff, but we'll get there," said Hardin-Simmons freshman Christian Holmes.
Because this is their first time living on their own many of the new students have a few reservations
"I’ve never been away from home. I'm the first of three to leave and it's been a roller coaster," said Green,
"It’s been kind of crazy moving everything in and unpacking was a big thing to tackle and it's been kind of crazy with my parents being very emotional and it's just a lot to take in all at once," said Holmes.
However, the students aren't the ones having the hardest time, the parents are.
"She's been very emotional, like very emotional, like kind of draining, where you're just like, ‘uh come on, it's going to be ok,’" said Holmes.
Abilene Christian, Hardin-Simmons and McMurry start classes Monday.
