Abilene Greyhound Bus Station Changing Location

ABILENE, Texas - The Greyhound bus station in Abilene is moving from it's current location to 1657 State Highway 351 on June 19.

The new station will be at the Alon/7-Eleven convenience store. Greyhound spokesman Timothy Stokes said the move is all about location.

"We see this as a more convenient location for our passengers. It provides Greyhound with easy access to the highway and in addition it's also very close to the University," said Stokes.

The new location will offer food, ticketing and Greyhound Package Express services.

Some bus passengers said they were happy about the new location, but others were not sure about the move.

"I think it's better here because it's not as much traffic and if there's a lot of people getting off the bus they'll be more safer instead of being around all the traffic and all the highway," said Marie Saldivar about the Greyhound current downtown location.

Eric Britt, however, disagreed. "The new location in Abilene over here by Walmart will be way more convenient for the buses, thoroughfares, the I-20 corridors and so forth," said Britt.

Stokes said Greyhound plans to sell the old location once the move is complete.

Betty Hukill, President of the Abilene Downtown Association, said although the current Greyhound station will be moving out of downtown, she is not worried about having another vacant building.

"I don't think it's going to create a huge hole in downtown to have the Greyhound bus property available. I think it won't take long and it'll be prime value and somebody will scoop it right up," said Hukill.
