Abilene man, 31, ID'd as fatal shooting victim found in Jones County

ABILENE, Texas - A 31-year-old Abilene man has been identified as the victim of a fatal shooting. His body was found early Tuesday morning in Jones County.

State Police spokesman Sgt. Frederick Biddle said Ronald Michael Varner is the deceased male found lying on CR 347 south of FM 1082.

“The investigation is ongoing and we have no other information to release at this time,” Biddle said in an email.  “When more information becomes available, we will forward it to you.”

The crime scene was southeast of Hawley, west of Lake Fort Phantom and north of Abilene.

Texas Rangers are investigating a murder in Jones County.

The Jones County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene on CR 347 about a mile or two south of FM 1082 around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The crime scene is southeast of Hawley, west of Lake Fort Phantom and north of Abilene.

Deputy Eric Vickers of the Jones County Sheriff’s Office confirmed a murder investigation is ongoing, but declined to release any details, pending notification of next of kin.
