A 32-year-old Abilene man was arrested late Monday after assaulting a police officer at Hendrick Medical Center.
Jason Thomas Springer was arrested for third-degree felony assault on a public servant. He is being held in the Taylor County Jail on a $20,000 bond.
According to the report, an officer was dispatched to a traffic hazard. Springer was there and taken for a mental health evaluation. Mental health officials also requested a medical evaluation.
Springer was taken to Hendrick where he was asked to give a urine sample. When he came out of the bathroom, Springer "advanced" toward the officer, who attempted to detain Springer for the safety of those around him.
The report states the struggle continued and the two fell where the officer's head hit the wall, making a hole. The officer additionally scraped his arms during the struggle.
