ABILENE, Texas -

An Abilene man arrested earlier in the week in connection to a pipe bomb now has a robbery charge against him.

On Wednesday, police responded to a stolen vehicle call at Las Brisas Apartments in south Abilene. Officers said the car was occupied by 24-year-old Kyle Hayward and a pipe bomb was located in the glove box. Hayward allegedly fought with police and evaded arrest.

According to an arrest report, Hayward allegedly dragged the owner of a stolen car on Nov. 10. Police said the owner tried to get his car back and grabbed Hayward through the driver’s side window. Hayward allegedly drove off and dragged the owner who eventually fell away from the car after police said Hayward began swerving.

Since the owner was injured, a robbery charge was filed against Hayward on Friday.

Hayward also faces other charges in connection to the Las Brisas incident including: assault of a public servant, attempting to take a weapon from a peace officer, motor vehicle burglary and theft. As of Sunday, he remains in the Taylor County Jail with total bail set at $124, 014.
