ABILENE, Texas - An Abilene man was indicted on multiple charges after leading Taylor County Sheriff’s deputies on a chase and throwing what they believe was drugs out the window.

A Taylor County grand jury indicted Don Whitely Lively III, 34, on Thursday for evading arrest and possession of methamphetamine.

According to the indictment, deputies tried to stop Lively on Feb. 2 when his pickup truck swerved into on-coming traffic. Ignoring the lights and sirens, deputies say Lively led them on a 20-minute chase through north Abilene.

During the chase, deputies say Lively threw items out the driver’s side window.

The chase ended when deputies blocked him in an alley between North 9th and State Street.

Deputies arrested lively and found a pipe, marijuana cigarette and methamphetamine in his truck. They did not find any of them items thrown out of the truck during the chase.

Lively has a history of running from police with drugs in his vehicle. In January, Clyde police say he ran from them while tossing a “large amount of meth.”
