Abilene man indicted for allegedly shooting family member, fighting cop
An Abilene man was indicted Thursday for allegedly shooting a family member and fighting with a police officer.
According to court records, 22-year-old Jonathan Rodriguez appeared to be under the influence of a substance when police arrived to his home on South 22nd Street May 2.
He allegedly was holding a female relative against a wall – striking her on the head and face – and police said her husband was lying on the floor with a gunshot wound. An officer tried to subdue Rodriguez; however, Rodriguez allegedly began to struggle with the officer and the officer eventually fell and dislocated his shoulder.
The female victim said she had picked Rodriguez up early in the morning and brought him home; however, he was allegedly acting irrationally as if he did not recognize her. She told police she was talking to him in his room when he pulled a gun from his pocket – waking her husband who tried to take the gun away. Upon being unable to retrieve the gun, the husband and wife started to exit the room and Rodriguez allegedly shot several times – striking the male victim in the torso.
Rodriguez was indicted for first degree felony aggravated assault and third degree felony aggravated assault of a public servant.
