A 57-year-old Abilene man was arrested Thursday for allegedly striking his common-law wife with a baseball bat.
Carl W. Axe III was arrested for aggravated assault (family violence) after the alleged incident about 1 p.m. Thursday in the 1800 block of North 10th Street.

At about 1:05 p.m. Thursday, Officer Jeremy Holmes and Carl Migliore responded to an injured subject call at a residence in the 1800 block of North 10th Street. APD dispatch had been notified concerning an alleged assault that involved a female and male subject. The initial call explained that the female had allegedly been assaulted with a bat and was struck on the head by a known subject. Officers arrived to find the male subject on-scene, as well as a female victim with a gash on her head. The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim and her common-law husband were together at their residence and that the male subject became angry with the victim and then struck her in the head with a bat. The victim was treated on scene and refused transport to a hospital. The subject was arrested for Aggravated Assault (Family Violence).
At about 6:35 p.m. Thursday, Sgt. Jason Haak observed what appeared to be a hand-to-hand drug transaction between a male and female subject. After the transaction, the female got into a vehicle and committed a traffic violation after driving off. Sgt. Haak contacted other officers for assistance in locating the other involved subject as he continued his observations. He followed the female subject and contacted her during a traffic stop in the 1700 block of Poplar Street. The female subject began crying when contacted by Sgt. Haak and surrendered a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. With the assistance of other officers, the other involved male subject was located and identified. No further arrests were made. The female subject was arrested for felony Possession of a Controlled Substance (methamphetamine).
At about 8:25 p.m. Thursday, Officer Chris Hall responded to a theft call at a business in the 1000 block of South Treadaway Blvd. An employee of the business had notified APD dispatch about his keys and wallet missing. Officer Hall’s preliminary investigation revealed that the employee was helping customers when he believes his wallet was stolen. The employee recalled seeing two male subjects in the store at the time. A report for misdemeanor Theft was taken and this investigation continues.
