Abilene Police: Prostitution arrest made
From Abilene Police Department spokesman George Spindler:
At about 1:10 p.m. Tuesday, an agent with the Special Operations Division contacted a 39-year-old female subject walking in the 800 block of North Mockingbird Lane. The agent was working in an undercover capacity in an unmarked vehicle while wearing plain clothes. During their encounter, the subject -- Michelle Josselet Torres of Abilene -- agreed to engage in a sexual act with the undercover officer for a fee of $80. Torres was arrested for misdemeanor prostitution.
At about 4:25 p.m. Tuesday, Officers Terrill Perkins and Robert Brannon responded to a disturbance at a business in the 900 block of N. Willis Street. APD dispatch had been notified concerning an alleged theft suspect that had been detained and had knocked down a customer. Officers arrived on scene and contacted the involved parties. The preliminary investigation revealed that a male suspect had left the supermarket without paying for an item of merchandise. Loss prevention had contacted the suspect and were in the process of escorting the suspect back into the store when the suspect began to flee. In his attempt to flee, the suspect shoved a shopping cart out of his way and the cart struck a juvenile, age seven, in the abdomen. The loss prevention employee was able to apprehend the suspect. The investigation revealed that the shopping cart caused the juvenile pain and there were marks on the victim consistent with the allegation. The loss prevention employee sustained minor abrasions on his hand and arm during the apprehension. The investigation revealed that the merchandise stolen was valued at $1.99. The suspect was arrested for robbery.
At about 5 p.m. Tuesday, Officer Martin Walker responded to a shoplifter call at a business in the 1600 block of Hwy 351. APD dispatch had been notified by an asset protection employee about a male suspect detained for alleged shoplifting. Officer Walker contacted the involved parties and his preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had been observed by asset protection selecting several items of merchandise that were opened in the store and concealed. The suspect was contacted after exiting the store without paying for said items. Approximately $55 in stolen merchandise was recovered. The suspect was arrested for misdemeanor theft.
