Abilene police are seeking help in identifying a man who attempted to rob the Compass bank in the 1000 block of North 3rd Street last week.

Police released surveillance imagery, along with a news release Monday, as part of an effort to locate the man who left the scene with no money.

The attempted robbery happened about 1 p.m. last Thursday.

The white male suspect – described as being about age 50 with a short grey beard – was reportedly wearing a blue wind breaker and white baseball hat at the time of the attempted robbery. He left the bank and got into a silver vehicle that was parked near the bank building.

The vehicle was believed to have fled east on North 3rd Street (a one-way street) towards Pine Street, police said.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Abilene police at 325-673-8331. Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Abilene Crime Stoppers at 325-676-8477.

A joint investigation is being conducted between Abilene police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
