ABILENE, Texas -

The city of Abilene is set to begin construction on the South 1st Street enhancement project Monday morning.

According to a city news release, the South 1st Enhancement construction project will update South 1st Street from Butternut to Locust Streets and include construction of a lighted and landscaped median, along with sidewalk, curb ramp and pedestrian crosswalk construction.

Construction is scheduled to start at Locust Street and continue down the corridor to Butternut Street during the estimated 105-working day project.

“A minimum of one lane of traffic will remain open in each direction during construction. Access will be maintained to all businesses as best as possible during construction,” the news release said.
