ABILENE, Texas -

The past couple of days of extremely cold temperatures has meant a change in routine for some of the animals out at the Abilene Zoo.

Zoo Director Bill Gersonde explains animals like the flamingos are moved into that colored building behind the exhibit area when the weather gets too cold.

Other animals, like the giraffes, have the heated indoor areas right inside their exhibit that they move into.

You may be surprised at the number of animals who can handle the cold weather pretty well. Those native to the Big Country and part of the Elm Creek Exhibit are all able to stay out on exhibit in the majority of winter and extreme weather.
