ABILENE, Texas - From Abilene Police spokesman George Spindler:
At about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Officer Adrian Slaymaker responded to a shoplifter call at a business in the 1600 block of Hwy 351. APD Dispatch had been notified by a loss prevention employee that a female suspect had been detained for alleged theft. Officer Slaymaker's investigation revealed that the female suspect selected various items of merchandise, including a 50-inch television, and left the store without paying for same. Approximately $865 in stolen merchandise was recovered. The female suspect was arrested for misdemeanor theft.
At about 7:45 p.m. Thursday, several officers responded to a suspicious activity call in the 200 block of E. Hwy 80. APD Dispatch had been notified by a concerned citizen that two males had parked their vehicle in the 200 block of Bois de Arc, got out with a bag and headed toward the Martin Luther King Memorial Bridge. Officers observed three male suspects engaged in spray painting a wall under the bridge. All three suspects were arrested for misdemeanor graffiti. A records check revealed that one of the suspects had an outstanding warrant for possession of marijuana.
At about 8:05 p.m. Thursday, Officer Charlie Compton responded to a theft call at a residence in the 2200 block of Idlewild Street. APD Dispatch had been notified by a female victim that lawn equipment had been stolen from her residence. Officer Compton's investigation revealed that approximately $200 of lawn equipment had been left unsecured in the victim's back yard for a few days. Equipment stolen included a lawn mower and a grass trimmer. A report for misdemeanor theft was taken. This investigation continues.
