ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' softball team beat Sul Ross State 6-1 in American Southwest Conference action at Ellis Field on Saturday afternoon to finish off the weekend sweep.
Mac Clay put the Cowgirls on the board with a home run to lead off the first inning. HSU added three runs in the fourth. Carol Swindell had an RBI double and Emily
Hardaway followed with a two-run double in the inning.
HSU added a single run in the fifth on back-to-back doubles by Carley Willis and Carol Swindell. Sarah Truelove had a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning for HSU.
The Lobos scored a run in the seventh on a bases loaded walk by Amanda Garza.
Clay and LeLeux had two hits each to pace the Cowgirls. Four different Lobos had a hit.
Hardaway (6-5) was again great in the circle for the Cowgirls. The freshman worked four shutout innings and allowed just two hits Lara Ammermann worked three innings of relief for her first save.
Keri McShan (1-14) took the loss allowing four runs in three and one-third innings. Isaura Rodriguez worked two and two-third innings of relief.
HSU is now 16-10 on the year and 13-8 in conference action. Sul Ross State fell to 3-23 overall and 3-18 in ASC play. HSU will play at LeTourneau next weekend.
