Dad who thought he couldn't have children cherishes kids on Father's Day

ABILENE, Texas - For one dad, every day is Father's Day.

Clay Vickors and his family spent Father's Day at the Abilene Zoo Sunday.

Vickors said because of an injury he sustained as a teenager, he thought he would never be able to have children.

"When I was 13 years old, I suffered a football injury and it caused chronic pancreatitis where it crushed part of my pancreas and it's just something I've dealt with ever since then," Vickors said.

"My body has been through so much drama. I've had to have part of my pancreas removed, my spleen has had to be removed, my gall bladder, my appendix. I've had to have several organs taken out, and just because of all the trauma on my body, doctors didn't think that I would be able to have kids anymore."

Vickors and his wife have been married for four years. He said their children are a miracle.

"I'm blessed," Vickors said. "That's what I look at everyday is the fact that you know I never thought I'd have kids and now I've been blessed with two. It's just an amazing feeling. I wake up every morning and that's why I wake is for my kids. If it weren't for them I don't think I'd even be here anymore."

Vickors had an inspirational message to any other men who may have the same challenges.

"My kids are No. 1," Vickors said. "If there's any fathers out there that are having trouble having kids right now, just keep trying. God will bless you with kids when it's the right time. Luckily in my life it was the right time and God blessed me with two of them."
