Olympian rifle shooters travel to Winters for new testing facility

WINTERS, Texas - Some Olympian rifle shooters traveled all the way to the Big Country to test their ammunition. A British company called Eley spent more than $100,000 opening an ammunition testing facility in Winters.
It's the first one in the United States for the company. The new unique facility is located at Killough Shooting Sports off U.S. Hwy 83.

The tunnel is 164 feet long and the goal for the shooters is to test the ammunition's precision and accuracy on the target.

Two Gold Medal Olympian rifle shooters were at the event on Wednesday to inaugurate the range. Gold, silver and bronze Olympian medalist Matt Emmons shoots a .22 Caliber Rifle during competition.

Emmons traveled to the United Kingdom every year to test ammunition. He's glad to see a facility closer to his home.

"Having something here is awesome," Emmons said. "It's so much easier to get too. I live up in Colorado so if I need to I can just jump in the truck."

These two Olympians weren't the only ones to travel a long way for the grand opening. The Robinson family traveled all the way from Amarillo.

Weston Robinson has been shooting since the age of six and uses this specific ammunition for competition. He's excited to see the new facility.
"Ya, I've never seen anything like it," Robinson said. "It's really, really nice."

You might wonder why they chose Winters for their new location. Killough Shooting Sports is one of their top ammunition sellers.
