The area around the Mall of Abilene and down Buffalo Gap towards Chimney Rock may have seen some of the most intense damage from Monday night's storm.

High winds and rain blew through Jeanette Pennington's neighborhood, snapping trees and downing signs. "It was just real loud, it just sounded like popping kind of," said Pennington.

Not far from her place, Matt Swartz is surveying the damage done. "Folks down here lost their trees, folks up here lost their trees, one tree into the house and sirens all night long, just all night long - we didn't get power until about 12," said Swartz.

Abilene's south side may have received some of the worst damage. A utility pole knocked over on to an apartment at the Warwick complex; another pole snapped in the middle, left suspended from the lines, its bottom half still in the ground.

At a portable buildings business just down the road off Clack, units were crumpled by the wind and belongings were thrown out in the open.

Off of Highway 83/84, the sign for the Treadaway and Loop 322 exit has been tossed aside. a popular playground and park is littered with tree limbs and debris.
AEP reports at least 45 utility poles were damaged in last night's storms.
