It’s the highest number of returning students at Abilene Christian University ever. 80 percent of last years freshmen have returned for their sophomore year. School officials said one of their policies in accepting students is responsible for that.
"We've been a little more strict about our admissions requirements and that's enabled us to focus on students that will be successful at ACU," said Kevin Campbell, Chief Enrollment Officer at ACU.
This is the first year of college for Camryn Faulk and Ashlea Findley. Why did they pick ACU?
"The campus is beautiful and I loved how small the classes were that you could really talk to your professor and get to know them and they can get to know you," said Faulk.
"I was wanting to find a place that I could come here and not only grow like in knowledge but also grow spiritually and so this was just a great combination of both," said Findley.
Faulk and Findley are two of more than a thousand new freshmen at the university this year. That’s a 10 percent increase from last year.
ACU students come from 43 different nations and almost every state.
"We have students from 49 different states we do not have a student from Delaware this year so we will be doing some recruiting in Delaware next year to find that elusive student from Delaware," said Campbell.
