BANGS, Texas -

Bangs has built itself a tradition of winning. The Dragons went three rounds deep into the playoff for the second-straight time last season, and this year they're looking to go further.

Bangs is coming off a 9-4 year, and they return a handful of key starters from 2013.

"Everybody here has played together," said senior running back Jake Gravell. "I mean we've got a couple move ins and they fit in right with us. We've got the chemistry and everything. We work together."

Two of the 21 guys coming back are running backs, namingly Jake Gravell and Seth Ross. The duo each rushed for over 800 yards, as well as had 200 plus yards receiving. They also combined for 20 touchdowns in 2013.

"They're very quick, they're very fast," said senior quarterback Keegan Hall. "[Gravell and Ross] can get the edge, they can cut, they can cut it back, very smart on following their blocks."

"They did a good job catching the ball in the backfield, so you're not having to train a new quarterback plus new backs at the same time," said head coach Chuck Lipsey. "I think that's gonna help Keegan get through cause both those guys have accepted him as a quarterback and do a good job of doing what we ask them to do. They both run well, they block good for each other and they catch the ball well out of the backfield."

That new quarterback is Keegan Hall. He played wide receiver for the Dragons last season and is embracing his new role.

"Being a receiver last year, I know every route that they're gonna run," said Keegan. "It makes it a lot easier. Now I just gotta work on the reads, reading the defense, and what defense they're gonna be in."

"He's doing pretty good," added Gravell on Hall. "He had a little trouble at the start, but it's something new to him. He's getting better every day, [and] that's all he needs to do."

Lipsey is extremely happy with his Bangs squad so far.

"We're a little bit ahead of where I figured we'd be, which is a good thing," said Elder. "We'll know more after the scrimmage. We have Brownwood and Comanche on Friday so we'll get tested pretty good on that.

"it's a lot different," said Hall on transitioning to quarterback. "I like it though. I just gotta be a leader and step up. I gotta lead the team and get some wins."

Bangs opens their season on the road against Ballinger at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 29th.
