Two men have been sentenced to life in prison following attempted capital murder convictions Friday in connection to shots fired in January at a Department of Public Safety trooper.

Myron McDonald Junior and Christopher Johnson—both in their early 20s—were arrested January 21 after allegedly shooting at State Trooper Frank Casarez, leading him on a high-speed chase along Interstate 20 and then barricading themselves inside a Colorado City home in an approximate 11 hour standoff.

Their joint jury trial began Tuesday afternoon at the Nolan County Courthouse in Sweetwater. Defense attorneys attempted to prove that a male juvenile who was in the vehicle with McDonald and Johnson was the gunman; however, the jury found McDonald and Johnson guilty Friday afternoon.
