2 killed, 4 injured in Ballinger single-vehicle crash

BALLINGER, Texas - Two people were killed and four others injured after the SUV they were in ran into a deer in Runnels County.

The accident happened about 10:16 p.m. Friday, less than a mile south of Ballinger on U.S. Highway 83.

Lidia Morales-Medrano, 42, and Fredy Urgell, 13, died in the crash.  Both were from Emporia, Kansas.

A spokesman for the Department of Public Safety says the driver,  46-year-old Carlos Armando Ventura, swerved to miss the deer and rolled the vehicle several times.

Four passengers were injured, including a 20-year-old who is in serious condition.

The two wearing their seat belts were treated an released. The two who were killed and those still in the hospital were not.
